Ryan can you explain your turning point from an amateur snowboarder to pro?
It happened around three years ago I just signed my DC contract and they started looking for crew for me to film with. I then got on the sandbox film crew and I think that was the turning point for me!
You have merged out of the Australian snowboard scene and are making a big name for yourself on the international scene. Would you say it’s tough for an Australian pro rider to break into the scene in north America?
Yeah I think its pretty hard I dont think people take us seriously because we have such little hills here and most people prob dont even know we have snow! But a few of us are starting to get out there now so hopefully its easier for the generations to come!
Give us a quick run down on your season?
This year I started filming with standard films so I was pretty excited to get it going! I started off with a rail week in ottawa that was fun. I’m not a big jibber but was good to get it out of the way early season! I then went back to whis for a few month’s filming in the back country then down to Tahoe for a few weeks then finished off the winter in whis with BBQs and lake sessions!
What is the most favourite country you have traveled to and why?
I love traveling to all countries but my favourite is coming home to Australia, I just love being with my friends and I love getting out in the surf!
Hands down what has been the scariest moment snowboarding in your life?
I wasn’t actually snowboarding when this happened but it was at snowpark in NZ and we were filming for the DC mtn lab 1.5 and were shooting some rally car footage when ken decided to rip by me in a high speed drift and missed me by inches! that was pretty scary haha
How can you describe your snowboarding style?
Im not sure, I guess I just try to make everything look easy as possible.
